"A Model of Cooperation"

On December 18, 2001, the property now known as Carson Road Woods was permanently preserved
by Lawrence Township, New Jersey. This culminated an unprecedented partnership between local,
county, and state government, for-profit and not-for-profit corporations, and over three hundred
private citizens. Below are the names (and links, if available) of those public and corporate entities.

Government Entities

State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection, Green Acres Program
"To achieve, in partnership with others, a system of interconnected open spaces, whose protection will preserve and enhance New Jersey's natural environment and its historic, scenic, and recreational resources for public use and enjoyment."

This program provided the lion's share of the funds necessary to preserve Carson Road Woods.

State of New Jersey, Department of Agriculture, Farmland Preservation Program
A program to transfer development rights from private land owners to the government, while allowing the property to remain as an active agricultural area. Because some funds to preserve Carson Road Woods came from this source, at least 30± acres of the property will remain available for agricultural usage.

County of Mercer
The Capital County. Provided funding from county open space tax revenues.

Township of Lawrence
Now the proud owner of Carson Road Woods, the Township provided funding from its local open space tax revenue.

Non-Profit Corporations

Delaware and Raritan (D&R) Greenway
"To help safeguard the water quality, environment and livability of our region by establishing greenways."

Arguably the one entity without which Carson Road Woods would be a suburban haven today. As the preeminent conservation organization in central New Jersey, D&R spearheaded the fundraising effort, coordinated an unprecedented coalition of private, corporate and government interests, and successfully solicited $8.4 million within a six week period.

Educational Testing Service
"Listening, Learning, Leading."

Perhaps best known for its challenging standardized tests (SAT, SAT II, GRE, to name a few...), ETS was a corporate contributor to the preservation of Carson Road Woods.

Lawrence Township Conservation Foundation
"To identify and save important portions of Lawrence Township's (Mercer County) remaining open spaces."

LCTF was another member of the coalition that saved Carson Road Woods.

North Lawrence Citizens Association
An informal group of citizens who reside in the northern half of Lawrence Township. Also a member of the Carson Road Woods preservation team.

Rosedale Acres Homeowners Association
An association of homeowners in Rosedale Acres.

For-Profit Corporations

Bristol-Myers Squibb
"To extend and enhance human life by providing the highest-quality pharmaceutical and related health care products."

Not just a drug company, BMS has shown a keen interest in Carson Road Woods. From financially assisting its preservation to insisting upon its suitability for a bike trail, BMS has been one of Carson Road Woods' most enduring figures.

Jasna Polana
Renowned for its looming water hazards and elusive greens, Jasna also contributed to the preservation of Carson Road Woods.

And over three hundred private contributors.
